The National Institute of Agricultural

Marketing (NIAM) is a premier national level institute set up by the Government of India on 8th August 1988 to offer specialized Training, Research and Consultancy in Agricultural Marketing in India and South East Asian countries. NIAM is an autonomous body under Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. Agricultural Marketing occupies an important place, particularly in the context of the new liberalization and value addition requirements of the agricultural sector. The main objectives of the institute are to impart training to various levels of functionaries to conduct research, to offer consultancy services and education to develop promising human resources in order to meet the new emerging challenges in the field of agricultural marketing.

Objectives:

Postgraduate Diploma in Management - Agri-Business Management (PGDM-ABM) was started in 2001 and it prepares students for a career in the science based, technology-driven industry called Agri-Business.

  1. To develop adequate conceptual base in different subject areas of relevance.
  2. To acquire sufficient operating skills in using modern management tools and techniques in different functional areas.
  3. To develop skills for application of management tools and techniques appropriate in the unique context of agri-business.

To develop a gestalt perspective in the field of agri-business, its dynamics, complexities, challenges and opportunities in the emerging global context.

Mission

“To achieve managerial eminence in Agri-Business section by enhancing the managerial and analytical capacities of Agri-graduates and transforming them into adept, competent and committed managers.”

The programme aims at enabling agricultural graduates to acquire the critical competencies for functioning as effective agri-business managers. PGDM (ABM) is a two year fully residential programme for students having edge of graduation/ post graduation in agriculture and allied sciences. The PGDM (ABM) combines the best of an MBA with unique skills required for a career in agri-business.

Introduction

CCS NIAM offers two-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Management-Agri-Business Management PGDM (ABM) Programme approved by AICTE for agriculture and allied graduates. The programme churns out professionals to cater the needs of various sectors viz. agri processing, agri-input/output marketing, pharmaceuticals, plantation, export-import, commodity trading, microfinance, banking, Agri-Business consultancy, retailing etc.

Pedagogy

Learning Model at CCS NIAM:

Learning model for PGDM (ABM) has faculty drawn from top business schools (IIM, IMDI, MANAGE, IIFT, GIM etc.) and consultants (Nmore, British Council, HDFC Bank, etc.) across the country complemented by industry captains from agri-business sector. The programme features lectures, management games, industry interaction and seminars by the corporate leaders, to help students to blend theoretical understanding with practical applications.

Program Design:

The curriculum consists of 36 core courses, 4 electives and 3 projects totally comprising 119 credits spread over two years. Constant review ensures that the courses are both contemporary and pertinent. The PGDM (ABM) course is composed of a mix of core courses, electives, seminars and industry interaction. CCS NIAM customizes the educational experience by maintaining a sound student-to-faculty ratio. A small group-learning environment is encouraged and the faculty and students share an excellent rapport with each other.

Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Sciences or in any other discipline with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of SC/ ST/PH]. Must have a valid Score of CAT- 2024.

Events

Spandan: A new beginning: August 8 of every year marks the beginning of the NIAM Foundation Week celebration. The event is highlighted by cultural, literary and sports activities performed during the foundation week.

Markveda: Markveda is one of the most popular events in NIAM which instills healthy spirit of competitive feeling among students in order to win.

Markveda Title:his event catalyzes students' business acumen and understanding by organizing business plans, paper presentations, stock market games and new product launch among the students. Markveda is scheduled once in every two trimesters. It includes:

  • Inquizition - The business quiz. Navakriti: The product launches.
  • Shreshtha - The exploration of the talent pool, to bring out the best among all.

Infotainer: All the publication activities on behalf of students are made by Infotainer Club. One of such initiatives from Infotainer is monthly news letter 'VISTA' which is circulated to various corporate houses. 'OLIVE', is a quarterly sector specific publication by the NIAM students compiling their views regarding analysis of burning issue and different agricultural sub-sectors, the latest facts, information, changes in the policies, well processed into their view point's regarding the took place events.

Skyrius: Every year in the month of September NIAM celebrates Skyrius- the home coming of the alumni.The unique feature of Skyrius is that it provides a unique opportunity to students at campus to interact with the faces in corporate.

Perseverance permeates the life of the students at CCS-NIAM. Their efforts develop the clear and present mind-set that creates the foundation for effortless success.

2016-18 & 2017-19 Initiatives

Agro Von -The annual B-fest: CCS-NIAM has taken an initiative for organizing an annual B-fest in the campus where participants from various B-Schools will prove their competence. It will include a series of events including B-plan (Lakshya), Case study (Vivechan), Debate (Manthan), Marketing (Kshetra), Marketing Plan, Article writing (Sankalan), Photography (Pratibimb), Best out of Waste (Srijan) and Talent Hunt (Pratibha).

Farm to Fork- A quarterly newsletter: CCS-NIAM is releasing a quarterly newsletter which features all the latest campus information including cultural and sports events, latest conferences attended and articles by students on various agricultural and economy related themes.

Activities

Swachata Pakhwada: Cleanliness is one of the most important aspects among all the students, faculty and staff at CCS-NIAM. In this connection, the number of events are being celebrated by students viz. clean campus day, clean hostel day, green campus day, clean mess day, debate competition, nukkad natak (Street Play), etc in the campus and outside of the campus. Students are also spreading the message on importance of cleanliness to the people as care for surrounding and frequently pay a visit to nearby villages and slum areas for the same. NIAMies are continuously engaged in various cleanliness campaign organized by different ministries, department and other local bodies for the cleanliness initiative.

Samvedana: Some of us might be fortunate enough to be blessed with a good life. It becomes more meaningful when we do noble activities and give them back something to the society we live in. Students at CCS-NIAM recognize that the underutilized material at the hostels or even their rooms can prove as a powerful resource to the needful people. Through ‘Samvedana’ the students try to channelize this resource (clothes and other things) from campus to the needy people in the nearby villages and the slums.

Blood Drive: Donating blood, daunting as it may seem, is a simple and highly commendable act. Every year a blood donation camp is being organized at CCS-NIAM campus to increase knowledge, awareness, and enthusiasm towards this gracious and hospitable act. On the occasion of foundation day/8th August, Institute organizes blood donation camp in association with Duralabhji Hospital which was sponsored by Lion’s club, Jaipur. NIAMies participated with great zeal in “Blood Drive” to donate blood and save life.

National Youth Day: Jan 12th is observed as National Youth Day on Swami Vivekanand's birthday and the ideal way to commemorate this day was by conducting a Blood Donation camp and creating awareness of the importance of blood donation. The creative and innovative students of the institute brought out colourful posters highlighting the importance of blood donation with catchy slogans which motivate the students to come forward and donate blood.
