Vijaya Gupta has been working as the Chair Professor of Economics at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Mumbai. She is the Co-chair of the Executive Committee of DEI of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists.

She has recently been a Visiting Professor at the University College London (UCL), London, UK. She also serves on the Board as a Non-Executive Director of the financial company Ticker Ltd and a registered independent director of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Her general research interests are in the fields of environmental economics, development economics, and agricultural economics, and in particular, vulnerability assessment of climate change, climate change adaptation strategies in agriculture and migration, health cost estimation due to arsenic water contamination, indigenous knowledge, valuation of intangibles, growth, and environment. She has extensively published and presented research papers in highly ranked journals and conferences.
