Dr Arun Kansal is a Professor and Centre Director (ICWMR) at TERI School of Advanced Studies (formerly TERI University), New Delhi. He did Ph.D. from IIT, Delhi after completing M.Tech. in Environmental Engineering and B.E. in Civil Engineering from VRCE/VNIT. He has over 28 years of research, consulting, and teaching experience in the areas of environmental engineering, water resources management, air pollution, Waste treatment, urban environment, and energy - environment - climate linkages and trade-offs. His education, research and teaching has been interdisciplinary. He has worked on projects related to treatment technology design, policy, regulatory and management aspects of sustainability science. He had received Best Teacher award from GGS Indraprastha University, New Delhi in 2001; Best Research Paper award from Indian Water Works Association in 1997 and Roll of Honor by TERI in the year 2011.

He had served as ICCR Chair Professor in Environmental Science and Policy to post-graduate students in Freie University, Berlin, Germany during 2010-11. He has been an Honorary Senior Research Fellow in Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Birmingham, UK (2011-14), Visiting Professor in the Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Derby, UK (2015-2018) and Key Technology Partner Visiting Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia in 2013; and Co-Lead, Thematic Working Group on Water, ICIMOD, Kathmandu. He also served as a Lead Author for IPCC 5th Assessment Report WGIII. He has secured several project grants from Multilateral organizations, GoI, Corporates and Foundations. He has been invited as an expert in Rajya Sabha TV and on DD in the period of 2016-2018. His activities and opinions are regularly cited in print media
